The Walk

So I thought it would be a good idea to walk in the Seattle Half Marathon yesterday. Jen and I have been participating in it for the past three years and has become a post Thanksgiving tradition of sorts. Year 1, we ran in the snow and were so drenched that we ran across the finish line with our toes slishing and sloshing in soaking wet socks and shoes. Year 2, we signed up to walk since Jen was post-surgery and thanks to her stubbornness we ended up running nearly the entire damn race. Year 3, we signed up for the walk and walked the walk. Walking 13.1 didn’t sound that difficult and I figured it would be good exercise but I quickly gained a new appreciation for the walkers. Four hours of walking is tough and being 6 months pregnant didn’t make it any easier. I was sore in places I’ve never been sore in past races including my in my hips, lower back, and lower abdomen. On the positive, I had a lot of fun with Jen and Melissa and it definitely makes for a good story some day.

I had another doctor’s appointment on Wednesday and completed my glucose screening test. My doctor informed me that I gained 9lbs in the last four weeks which was pretty alarming because while I definitely feel bigger –I didn’t think I was 9 lbs bigger. To date, I’ve gained about 15 lbs and definitely don’t need any more 9 plus pound weigh-ins within a four week span. I guess it’s safe to say that I officially have my appetite back. I attribute my weight gain to the decaf eggnog latte runs that I drag Jen on and maybe the eggnog ice cream that I found at the QFC in U-Village that I transported all the way to Tacoma while crossing my fingers that it wouldn’t melt in the backseat of Jeff's car on the way home. And, it might be from the chocolate dipped granola bars w/peanut butter that I’ve craving. In any event, things are going well. I have more energy than I’ve had in awhile and I’m looking forward to meeting our baby in about 14 more weeks.

Congratulations Tera Kay! After four shotty months of feeling terrible you're officially an inspiration to us all. I'm very thankful for you, our little tradition and your soon to be addition. How about an eggnog latte to celebrate? ^_^

Look at your little baby bump! So cute!! I can't believe you walked 13 miles while six months pregnant. You are insane. I had a tough time walking the half mile to and from work everyday. Can't wait to see you soon! We'll be up there this weekend, but probably busy with family. We'll for sure see you around xmas. xoxo
